Labour’s General Election campaign is in full swing in Chichester. The remain-supporting tactical voting website Remain United has now put Labour’s projected vote share 5 points ahead of the Liberal Democrats in Chichester, and has taken the bold decision to remove them as the recommended choice for tactical voters.

Conservative: 56%
Labour: 23%
Lib Dems: 18%
Brexit: 0%
Green: 3%

Labour candidate for Chichester, Jay Morton said “It is now crystal clear that in Chichester if you want to send the strongest possible message to the government, the only way is to vote Labour; a vote for the Lib Dems here in Chichester will only split and weaken this vitally important message at a time of national crisis.”

This follows the two previous General Election results, in which Labour finished ahead of the Liberal Democrats in Chichester: in 2017 with double the level of support. At the same time, the website ‘Tactical Votes’ had already rated Labour as the best-placed party for tactical voting in Chichester. Labour has narrowed the gap in the national opinion polls and the Lib Dem projected vote share has plunged. It is becoming increasingly clear that Labour is the only party that can form a government and put power back in the hands of the people, giving them a final say on Brexit with the choice of a workable deal to leave or to remain.

Jay Morton concluded by saying, “We can’t take anything for granted, every additional vote for Labour in Chichester will help to send the strongest possible message to the Government, not just over Brexit but also their 9 years of austerity under both Tory & Lib Dem coalition governments”.
