Labour voices concerns over lack of affordable housing as preferred developer is selected.

The District Council has now announced its preferred developer for the Southern Gateway project. The project will see the redevelopment of the southern approach to the City as part of a plan to regenerate the area.

Labour has voiced its concerns over the lack of affordable housing, the impact on the local environment, concerns over gentrification but most importantly the lack of engagement with the local community in every step of this process.

Labour’s Cllr Kevin Hughes has been working towards building more affordable housing.

Phil Wilson has said, β€œIt’s safe to say that this project would have been conducted very differently if we had any say in this.” Concerns over the removal of the Bus Station, reducing access and connectivity between the Train Station and City Centre, has been an issue Labour petitioned on last year.

Phil said, “The regeneration of this area should have involved residents in every detail from day one to ensure their needs are met and that a community is not priced out of the area they call home.”
