Cllr Michael Jones, Labour Leader at West Sussex County Council, picked apart the proposed Tory budget at the most recent County Council meeting. He said in the meeting that despite some additional funding “nothing in this budget even begins to address some of the areas where the county council’s key performances are rated one of the worst in the country”.

The additional funding is a drop in the ocean compared to cuts over the last 10 years. West Sussex County Council failed in recent inspections into Child Services and Fire and Rescue, with both the previous Leader of the ruling Tories and the Chief Executive stepping down, the latter receiving a substantial taxpayer-funded pay out.
